Crafts and Fall Festivals

Hi y'all! Wood n' Whimsy (aka; Pam and myself) are going nuts with the prim crafts getting ready for fall festivals and craft fairs. Our 1st one is the Lebanon Fall Festival on Saturday Oct 4th in Lebanon, Illinois. Lebanon is a small rural town, home to McKendree College, about a 30 minute drive from St. Louis. If you live in this area, it's definitely a neat place to go. Lebanon still has many brick streets, several old stately antebellum mansions turned B&B and tons of interesting and quirky craft, antique and gift shops line the main street. It's a very quaint old town. If you live within driving distance it's a great place to get away for a weekend. It's also just a few miles from MidAmerica Airport.
Anyway, here are some of the crafts we are crankin' out! Please let me know your favorite by leaving a comment.

Bowl Fillers. This is Pam's thing as I REALLY, REALLY HATE to sew. I started them and she had to finish them or I would have thrown them away! I have tried so hard to like to sew, but just can't do it. I did coffee stain and decorated them.
This is an old screen that I painted. I have it propped up against a coral color wall, so it isn't showing as well as it should. I love painting on screens. It doesn't require much skill.
This cutie stands about 3 feet tall or can hang.

I love old windows too! I am not an artist so this is a decoupaged picture with the edges burned.
Well that's it for now. Until next time....God Bless,
Celene

It's Time For Fall Primitive Decor.

We are gearing up for our fall festivals and craft shows here at Celene's Treasure Chest. We are crafting like crazy! Here are some of the things Pam and I are making for the online store, the shop in Coffeen, Illinois and the craft fairs we are attending. Let us know your favorites. We'd love a little input from you. Don't forget to check out the FREE crafter ideas and resources at Wood n' Whimsy . Please add your prim plug to my plugboards. Come on by and visit us in Coffeen, bring a picnic lunch and spend some time at lovely Forsee Vinyards just 3 1/2 miles up the road from us.

Til next time.....God Bless,

Celene

This is an old dressed up telegraph insulator!

Pam is always saying " what are you gonna do with that, it's junk!" But I know I'll think of something. Just like this old crooked frame with a rusted hinge that I pulled out of a junk pile.

I tried a new lettering technique. Raised letters made from hot glue and then painted.

It's Just About Fall Y'all!

It's that time of year again. Harvest time, Craft Fairs and Fall Festivals are just around the corner. Then come the holidays. This is most crafters favorite time of year. It is certainly ours here at Celene's Treasure Chest Country Store in Coffeen, Illinois. We will be showing our crafts at several fairs and festivals. Pam and I (we call our crafts Wood n' Whimsy) are hammering, sanding, sawing and painting as fast as we can. Here are a few of our newest fall primitive crafts. I hope you'll let us know what you think.

This is an old telegaph insulator

I made this out of an old antique farm seed sifter/shaker box. It hangs or sits.

Til next time....God Bless,

Porch n' Yard Pickets

Hi everyone! I thought I'd show you a few things that my friend Pam and I make and sell in Celene's Treasure Chest country store in rural Coffeen, Illinois.
Pam and I call our crafting venture "Wood n' Whimsy" which by the way is also the name of my crafters blog that features free prim craft recipes, patterns, DIY and how-to's. Come on by and check it out!
I've been thinking that you might find it interesting to see how we make some of these things, so I'm going to start taking my camera to work with me. We have a work shop in the back of the store where we make all our crafts. So stay tuned, as they say and I'll include that in furture episodes.

The first picture is of a white washed picket that props or hangs on the porch or hangs on the outside of a home.

This next photo is of a spindle picket. There is a rain gauge and temperature gauge on the back.
Here is a bird bath made from a spindle and an old granite ware bowl.

Check out How to make grungy hang tags over at Wood n' Whimsy.

If you are anywhere near our neck of the woods, give me a holler. Forsee Winery and Vineyards are just 3 miles from the my shop. You can make a day of it, enjoying crafts, antiques, and a lovely picnic lunch at the picturesque countryside winery and vineyards.

Vintage Hot Pads and Doilies

Hey y'all! I've come across some of the cutest vintage goodies! Back in the day, crocheting on plastic doilies was all the rage. Here are some good examples!

I think I'll put these on sale this Flea Market Friday, so if you are interested, check back on Friday. Come on by my website and see my other vintage goodies and hand-did prim purties.

I've also found some adorable vintage aprons! I haven't had the chance to launder and iron them. That could take a while as I need to locate my iron and then find someone to retrain me to operate that particular piece of equipment. I forget, do you need a special heavy equipment license to operate an iron? LOL! It's been awhile.
Until next time...God Bless,

Family Reunion Vacation

Hey Ya'll! I've been away from blogging for several weeks, but I'm back. I went on vacation with my 82 year old mom and 3 sisters. We went to California for a huge family reunion. What a great time we had reconnecting with cousins we haven't seen in years! It was wonderful, so wonderful in fact that we are going to do it again in 2 years in Illinois. Most of us are from either California, Phoenix and Illinois. We are all very excited and looking forward to 2010! I am originally from California, but it has been many years since I have visited there. We did some site seeing and touristy things such as going to Fisherman's Warf in SanFrancisco, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and a lovely trip to Napa Valley. Hope you enjoy a few of the photos I took. You may have to click on the "View All Images" button as it doesn't seem to be loading correctly. Until next time...God Bless,
